Jeffrey, a Director in Conyers’ Litigation & Insolvency Department, was elected by the members' representatives at Congress in Heidelberg, Germany on 20 October. He will serve as Deputy President for 2011 before assuming the Presidency in 2012.

In this role, Jeffrey will be responsible for representing and promoting the Chartered Institute globally, lobbying Parliament and developing all forms of private dispute resolution, among other duties.

Commenting on his election, Jeffrey said: “The Chartered Institute is the leading body for promoting alternative dispute resolution worldwide and it is a great privilege to be elected to this position. I look forward to working on behalf of the Chartered Institute to promote its aims and to help achieve its objectives.”

Based in London, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators comprises over 12,000 private dispute resolution lawyers in 33 branches across financial centres worldwide. The institute works in close cooperation with regulators, firms and other professional bodies worldwide to promote private dispute resolution.

Jeffrey is the only chartered arbitrator in Bermuda. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute, tutors Fellowship Courses, and is the Founder and Branch Chairman of the Bermuda Branch, which has grown to encompass 50 members since establishment in 1995.

Jeffrey is an active arbitrator and counsel in domestic and international disputes, and is a mediator and a Justice of the Peace. He is Chairman of Bermuda’s Professional Conduct Committee, which governs the Code of Conduct Bermuda Barristers’ ethics for the approximately 400 barristers in the Bermuda Bar Association. Jeffrey holds three law degrees, and is called to the bar in seven countries.

Conyers is an industry leader in arbitration and dispute resolution, and has acted in a number of leading arbitrations for global, multi-billion dollar disputes.
